Sea turtle nesting season

Lights out, no holes left in the sand, no gear left overnight — sea turtle nesting season on 30A. Runs May 1 – Oct 31.

Coastal dune lakes

Walton County has roughly 15 of the ~100 coastal dune lakes on Earth — rare freshwater lakes that periodically open to the Gulf through a shifting sand outfall. Outfall status changes day to day, so ask locally before assuming one is open or closed.

  • Western Lake (Grayton Beach)
  • Eastern Lake (Seagrove Beach)
  • Camp Creek Lake (WaterSound)
  • Deer Lake (Seagrove Beach)
  • Oyster Lake (Grayton Beach / WaterColor)
  • Draper Lake (Blue Mountain Beach)
  • Stallworth Lake (Blue Mountain Beach)
  • Big Redfish Lake (Grayton Beach)
  • Little Redfish Lake (Grayton Beach)
  • Alligator Lake (Topsail Hill Preserve)
  • Campbell Lake (Topsail Hill Preserve)
  • Morris Lake (Topsail Hill Preserve)

Parking

Regional beach accesses (Ed Walline, Grayton Beach, Van Ness Butler) have the most parking and restrooms but fill first in season. Neighborhood accesses are walk/bike-up only in most residential areas. Go early or go late in peak season — lots fill by mid-morning.
